The beautiful town of Tavira has been described as one of the most unspoilt towns of the Algarve. Situated on the Eastern Algarve, less than 20 miles from Faro Airport, this historic fishing town dates back to 2000 BC and boasts picturesque houses and buildings and an abundance of moorish architecture.

The town is built on either site of the River Gilao, the two halves being connected by a seven arched Roman bridge. The Moorish Castle in the Arab Quarter provides the finest views of the town, with its narrow cobbled lanes and 37 churches.

There are an abundance of shops, bars, restaurants and street cafes, many of which specialise in local produce including locally caught seafood. In the summer months there is often evening entertainment - festivals where the town is decorated and families gather. During the daytime you can take a ferry to the beach on the beautiful Ihla de Tavira, enjoy a round of golf on some of the Algarve's finest courses, or take a tour of the town on the miniature train or a beautiful horse drawn carriage.
